Jarrow helped unions hear the voices of over 2000 Amazon workers

UNI Global Union commissioned Jarrow to build and run a survey on the effects of Amazon’s workplace surveillance practices.

The result was the largest independent survey of Amazon workers ever conducted.

  • Over 20,000 words of worker testimony
  • Survey results in 6 languages

How we did it

After a comprehensive consultation on the client’s goals for the project, Jarrow led the survey design process from start to finish. Every aspect of the survey was carefully considered to ensure valid and useful results, and to maximise completion rates.

Amazon would never share a list of worker contacts with a union, so Jarrow’s next task was to find Amazon workers online, and get the survey in front of them.

Who wants to think about work off the clock? For filling out a survey about your job to be worth it, you’ve got to think it matters. Jarrow’s design team crafted social media ad creative that spoke directly to Amazon workers’ daily experiences, and tailored messages to encourage action.

Impact

To bring it all together, Jarrow produced an in-depth report analysing the findings of the survey. An article about the report and the survey appeared in Time magazine in January 2023.

Several reports about abusive working conditions at Amazon have emerged in recent years, but they rarely center the perspectives of workers themselves, and never at such a large scale.
